'It just felt way different than normal': Sudden jolt shuts down NB US 169 Highway (kshb.com) — Northbound U.S. 169 between Harlem Road and Briarcliff Parkway is closed indefinitely after a raised bridge joint damaged vehicles on a key route between downtown Kansas City and the Northland. MoDOT is inspecting the bridge, offering a claims process for some drivers, and planning a full northbound bridge replacement in a two-year project starting after the World Cup.

Concrete truck driver killed in wreck on entrance ramp from Missouri 150 Highway to US 71 Highway (kshb.com) — A concrete truck driver died Tuesday morning after his vehicle rolled on the entrance ramp from eastbound Missouri 150 to southbound U.S. 71 in Kansas City. Police say the speeding truck couldn’t handle the curve, overturned, and hit a retaining wall, marking the city’s 67th traffic death of 2025—still fewer than at this time last year.

Police looking for stolen puppy suspect from Blue Springs (kctv5.com) — Kansas City police are helping search for Clarice, a 10-week-old Chihuahua stolen from the Petland store in nearby Blue Springs. The tiny, tan puppy with a white neck patch needs close monitoring for hypoglycemia, and anyone with information is urged to contact KCPD or the TIPS Hotline immediately.

4. Kansas City's new ordinance against predatory towing starts Jan. 1 after judge's ruling (fox4kc.com) — Kansas City’s new anti–predatory towing ordinance, including a “Bill of Rights for Towed Vehicles,” will officially take effect Jan. 1 after a Jackson County judge upheld it. The rules cap towing charges, require operators to share rights with owners, and even let you stop a tow before your car leaves the property, following complaints and a push from Mayor Quinton Lucas.

5. Black Santa exhibit celebrates representation, holiday tradition (kshb.com) — A Black Santa exhibit at the Bruce R. Watkins Cultural Heritage Center in Kansas City is offering kids and families a Santa that better reflects their community. Featuring more than 40 donated figurines and growing yearly, the display emphasizes representation, pride, and holiday joy, and runs Tuesday through Saturday through Jan. 9, 2026.
