Mayor Cara Spencer favors keeping Interim Sheriff John Hayden in place while the courts sort out whether she, the Board of Aldermen, or the governor controls the appointment and timing of any election.

Resurrecting the St. Louis fashion industry (thekirkwoodcall.com) — St. Louis’ once-mighty garment district is getting new life from the St. Louis Fashion Fund, which backs local designers and students while trying to keep creative talent in Missouri. Through scholarships, mentoring, and business support, the group and partners like Caleres say they’ve helped grow the region’s fashion industry into a multibillion‑dollar economic force again.

Despite failed audit, Mo. jail gets no funds for infrastructure fix (corrections1.com) — St. Louis County’s troubled jail won’t receive any money next year for badly needed infrastructure fixes, despite a failed audit that flagged mold, leaks, failing plumbing and overcrowding. County leaders say there’s no room in the budget for the $36 million overhaul, even as detainees and defense attorneys describe worsening conditions and staffing shortages that could raise safety and liability concerns for residents.
