Missouri State Board of Education visits Springfield schools (ozarksfirst.com) — State education leaders are in Springfield this week, holding their annual December meeting here and touring several Springfield Public Schools facilities. Board members say seeing Missouri’s largest district in action helps guide statewide decisions, and they spent time in panel discussions with SPS students, educators, and community members to better understand local needs.
   

2. New Republic city administrator focused on ‘maintaining the momentum' (sgfcitizen.org) — A longtime Springfield streets leader, Colten Harris, has taken over as Republic’s new city administrator after years managing major street and stormwater work for Springfield. He reflects on his Springfield accomplishments, leadership style, and how he hopes to keep Republic’s growth on track while collaborating across southwest Missouri.
   

3. Springfield woman charged with stabbing 15-year-old in neck (sgfcitizen.org) — A Springfield woman is jailed and charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action after a 15-year-old girl was stabbed in the neck at a Springfield residence on Dec. 4. Police, witnesses, and court documents describe a violent altercation, the teen’s emergency treatment at Mercy, and injuries reported by the suspect, who is being held without bond.
   

4. Woman Gives Birth at Wildlife Aquarium in Missouri (today.com) — A woman unexpectedly gave birth in a restroom at Johnny Morris’ Wonders of Wildlife Aquarium & Museum in Springfield, with a Mercy EMS dispatcher calmly guiding a bystander through the delivery by phone. The baby arrived within minutes, and both mother and child were soon taken to a local hospital, leaving the dispatcher with one of his most joyful Springfield calls yet.
   

5. On Your Side: Company donates new roof to Springfield family (ky3.com) — A Springfield family just received a free $13,000 roof from a local roofing company after months of battling their insurance over storm damage. The donated roof should stop leaks that may have affected their son’s health and gives them a brighter, safer home heading into Christmas.
