Springfield's Hotel of Terror owner circulates petition to help stop eminent domain process (ky3.com) — Springfield’s Hotel of Terror is at the center of an eminent domain fight after City Council approved acquiring its property to replace a 100-year-old Main Street bridge rated in poor condition. Owner Sterling Mathis is circulating a citizen petition, needing 1,500 signatures in 30 days, hoping voters can decide whether the attraction stays or goes and how he’s compensated.
   

2. Court drops the mic on Springfield music scene feud (ozarksfirst.com) — A defamation lawsuit tied to Springfield’s local music scene has been dismissed without prejudice after the plaintiff, DJ Timothy “DJ Window Units” LaBrie, missed a court deadline to pay fees. The case, involving promoter Johan Collins and The Regency Live, could still be refiled under Missouri law.
   

3. Plane makes emergency landing on Missouri highway (kmbc.com) — An emergency landing on northbound Highway 65 near Springfield briefly disrupted traffic Saturday after a small plane with two people aboard developed engine trouble while trying to return to Springfield-Branson National Airport. No injuries were reported, and Missouri Highway Patrol Troop D oversaw removal of the aircraft from the highway.
   

4. Local 'Giving Tree' tradition aims to give back to Springfield community (ozarksfirst.com) — A Springfield woman is keeping a unique “Giving Tree” tradition going at the Pink House on Broadway, where neighbors can leave or take donated items for free. The project, started four years ago, focuses on sharing rather than proving need, helping residents declutter, save money, and support one another throughout the holiday season and beyond.
   

5. 3 indicted for conspiracy to violate asbestos-related laws at Mo. long-term care facility (stjosephpost.com) — Federal prosecutors in Springfield have indicted three parties tied to a Monett long-term care facility, alleging they conspired to skirt asbestos laws and endangered more than 150 residents and staff. The case details claims of unqualified renovation work, ignored warnings about asbestos, and false statements to inspectors, and will move forward in federal court where guilt or innocence will be decided.
