Springfield Art Museum receives 2 grants to support outreach and education during renovations (ky3.com) — Springfield Art Museum is keeping its programs alive during renovations thanks to two new grants totaling $65,000 that fund off-site outreach and fifth-grade art education. While the museum building is closed, Art is Everywhere and in-school field trips are bringing hands-on art experiences directly into Springfield neighborhoods and classrooms, reaching thousands of local kids and adults.
   

2. City of Springfield offers tips to reduce holiday food waste (ky3.com) — Springfield’s landfill nearly doubles its intake between Thanksgiving and New Year’s, much of it food waste, and city environmental staff are urging residents to change holiday habits. They recommend better leftover storage, creative reuse, composting, and reusable dishes to cut methane-producing trash and ease pressure on the local landfill.
   

3. Plans moving forward for Route 66 plaza in downtown Springfield (ozarksfirst.com) — City leaders are moving ahead with a new “Birthplace of Route 66 Plaza” in downtown Springfield, thanks to a land donation from Missouri State University at Jefferson and Park Central East. The Rotary Club plans to build the plaza on a former Colonial Hotel site in time for next April’s Route 66 Centennial Celebration, adding a new historic attraction to the city center.
   

4. C-Street shops gear up for Super Saturday shopping rush (ozarksfirst.com) — C-Street shops in north Springfield are gearing up for Super Saturday, expected to be the busiest shopping day of the season and a major boost for local businesses. Store owners say they’re seeing more customers seeking unique, meaningful gifts despite tariff-related cost pressures, and many are planning discounts and cozy touches like hot chocolate to draw in last-minute shoppers.
   

5. At candlelight vigil, Springfield animal shelter honors puppies found dead (sgfcitizen.org) — Rescue One in Springfield held a candlelight vigil to honor four puppies the nonprofit says were found dead, while three surviving littermates continue to recover in foster care. The shelter and Springfield-Greene County Health Department highlight ongoing animal cruelty investigations and urge residents to report concerns, as Rescue One works to expand services and build a new facility on Nichols Street.
