Thursday Severe Threat: Severe storms are possible Thursday afternoon through late evening. This is a complicated storm system, so please check back for changes and updates as we could see two waves of storms. And the 1st wave of storms may reduce or wipe out the severe threat from the 2nd wave. So, while we still have some questions on exactly how this plays out, here's the timeline on when to watch for severe storms.
Wave #1: This develops in Nebraska and moves east overnight, then diving southeast into the St. Louis area early Thursday afternoon. Areas northwest of St. Louis will see these storms by late morning. This complex of storms may weaken or dissipate, but if it holds together it could bring a few severe storms into St. Louis during the early to mid-afternoon.

Wave #2: Wave #1 will weaken and dissipate, then we watch for a new and large complex of storms developing right ahead of the cold front impacting the area during the evening. IF the atmosphere recovers from the first wave of storms, then this may turn into a severe line of storms with the potential for damaging winds, a tornado and a lower threat for hail. Isolated flash flooding would be possible too. The uncertainty is about how strong these storms will be when they move through during the evening. Check back here and on News4 for changes to the forecast.
