Weather Discussion: Blast Of Cold And Even A Shot For Snow Tuesday

We don't expect much if any accumulation.

April 18, 2021

A late-season shot of cold and possibly brief snow is possible Tuesday afternoon. We don't expect much if any accumulation as there will be a lot of melting with temperatures above freezing but dropping into the 30s. But it's possible to see a light coating on grass and raised surfaces in some areas, mainly north of St. Louis. As for roads, they will remain too warm and thus wet. Some models are advertising a brief wet snow in the afternoon, while others keep it as a brief mixture of rain/snow before ending by the early evening. There's still a lot to be determined on specific hourly timing with this front for Tuesday and if we'll see just some flakes mixed with rain or an actual conversion to some wet snow before ending. But this is the type of front that will feel like a change of seasons as we go from a mild Monday (near 70!) to a cold Tuesday and freezing or below freezing by Wednesday morning.
