Here are the top 3 stories today in Billings:

  1. The Billings Police Department has provided details of a homicide investigation at a carnival on 1st Avenue N. On Saturday night, officers were dispatched to the scene after receiving reports of juveniles brandishing a firearm, with further reports indicating a group of juveniles wearing masks had been assaulting a victim who was trying to flee in a car before reports of shots fired emerged. Upon arrival, officers found the victim's car and a 20-year-old man who had been fatally shot. Detectives are currently investigating the incident and have identified a person of interest, while witnesses are urged to come forward with any information. (KULR-TV)
  2. Montana Fish, Wildlife, & Parks is opening Lake Elmo to gasoline motorboats for two Saturdays in May to promote and increase boater safety. Typically, only electric trolling motors are allowed on the 64-acre reservoir in Billings. The events will be held on May 13 and May 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., and are intended to give boat owners an opportunity to test equipment for safety. Officers from the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary in Billings will be available to conduct boat safety inspections and will be set up near the Lake Elmo boat ramp. (Laurel Outlook)
  3. Have you wanted to learn more about art, but aren't sure where to start? Seniors and adults can join Bonny Beth Luhman from Stickman Studios at the Billings Public Library on Monday, May 8 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The class will learn how to create different shades, mix colors, and make original designs. • Have you ever dreamt of pack rafting down remote and wild rivers in the wilderness? But have no idea where to start? If you said yes to both of these questions, then the Introduction to Packrafting course is for you! The course is an entry-level, 6-day course for students entering grades 9-11 and interested in learning the basics of pack rafting and navigating swift water. (MWS via Instagram)
  • FYI: The fire department has wildland training at Riverfront Park from Monday, May 1 to Wednesday, May 3. During this time, the public can expect to see firefighting apparatus at the park. The training will take place at the far east end of the park, so most of Riverfront won’t be impacted. The park will be open during its usual hours and visitors will be able to take part in their usual activities. (City of Billings Government via Facebook)
