Montana Department of Commerce awards more than $8 million for affordable housing projects (nbcmontana.com) — Billings is set to see major affordable housing reinvestment, including rehabilitation of the Fraser and Sage Towers and a new 32‑unit Mitchell Court complex nearing completion. State housing funds and tax credits are helping local developers preserve and build lower‑cost rentals, with some Billings families expected to move into new units as early as January 2026.
   

2. Carfentanil seizures increasing in Montana (thewesternnews.com) — Billings police and the Montana Department of Justice are warning Yellowstone County residents about a sharp rise in carfentanil-laced pills, including a recent 5,300-pill seizure. Officials stress that even one pill can be deadly, urge residents never to use non-prescribed pills, and highlight overdose signs, naloxone resources, and local crisis support contacts available in Billings and across Montana.
   

3. Billings Public Schools looking to buy downtown building to expand healthcare program (ktvq.com) — Billings Public Schools is considering buying a former Rocky Mountain Bank building downtown to significantly expand local healthcare training programs without raising taxes. The district hopes to use existing lease revenue, including from the FBI, to cover the mortgage while creating more space for career-focused healthcare classes and avoiding the cost of building another high school elsewhere in Billings.
   

4. 'A place to lay your head': Billings nonprofit donating pillowcases to those in need (ktvq.com) — A Billings nonprofit called Sew Kindness is brightening local lives by sewing and donating handmade pillowcases to foster kids, at-risk youth, and nursing home residents. Founder Kari Jones and more than 80 volunteer seamstresses have already given away nearly 1,200 pillowcases, including about 150 to residents at Yellowstone River Nursing Home, all to offer comfort and a small, tangible reminder of community care.
   

5. Billings Leadership Foundation hires new executive director for Montana Rescue Mission (ktvq.com) — The Billings Leadership Foundation has named Dyann Romeijn as its new executive director to oversee Montana Rescue Mission, Friendship House, and the Mission’s bargain center in Billings. Her appointment follows the firing of former director Matt Lundgren after an internal investigation, as the board signals a fresh start for these key local service organizations.
