- Bozeman initiated trail work at Burke Park and Peets Hill on Monday, beginning with the construction of two overlooks and all-abilities trail improvements on the recently acquired 12 acres. The project aims to enhance accessibility and incorporate principles of Universal Design, guided by community feedback emphasizing scenic views, preservation of native vegetation, and connectivity to other trails. Although the construction area will not result in long trail closures, park visitors are advised to exercise caution around heavy machinery, leash their pets, and keep small children under close supervision in designated construction zones. - David McCabe, a resident of Bozeman, has been charged with attempted deliberate homicide for allegedly shooting Robert Corona, who was staying at his trailer. McCabe claimed self-defense, stating that he shot Corona with birdshot after Corona came at him with a knife. However, accounts from witnesses and physical evidence at the scene do not align with McCabe's version of events. McCabe's bail has been set at $100,000, and his preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jun. 9. (KBZK News)
- Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks (FWP) will host a bear safety training course in Bozeman on Tuesday, Jun. 13. The event will include displays of grizzly and black bears, as well as educational sessions on bear safety practices, bear biology, and how to handle bear encounters. Participants will be able to witness a simulated charging bear demonstration and receive free bear spray from FWP. Key tips provided by FWP include carrying bear spray, traveling in groups, avoiding bear attractants, and making noise to alert bears of human presence. (Fairfield Sun Times)

- Hayden Painter, a graduate of Montana State University, recently won the prestigious Berkeley Prize for an international architecture essay competition. His winning essay focused on addressing the needs of senior citizens, drawing inspiration from his grandmother's isolation in rural Appalachia. Painter proposed a community-based housing project that promotes intergenerational connections while preserving the mountain lifestyle, emphasizing the importance of architecture in improving people's lives.
