City of Omaha pays tribute to residents lost during homelessness (ketv.com) — Omaha residents gathered at Gene Leahy Mall as the city honored 117 people who died this year while experiencing homelessness, each represented by a lit paper bag. Family members, outreach groups, and city staff shared emotional tributes, stressing that every life lost in Omaha’s homeless community deserves to be remembered and urging compassion and shelter outreach as winter sets in.

One person critically injured in midtown Omaha apartment building fire (omaha.com) — A weekend fire in a midtown Omaha apartment building near 38th Avenue and Jackson Street left one resident hospitalized in critical condition and displaced about 10 others seeking alternate housing. Omaha firefighters responded to the two-story building Saturday, and officials have not yet released additional details about the cause. Neighbors may notice increased emergency activity and temporary disruptions in the area.
   

3. Durham Museum continues nearly century-old Christmas tradition (wowt.com) — Families in Omaha are once again flocking to the Durham Museum at Union Station to experience a nearly century-old Christmas tradition, complete with a massive tree, sock skating, and Santa’s cabin. Generations of locals describe the simple joy of watching kids’ awe in the historic Omaha train hall, where holiday celebrations first began back in 1931.
   

4. Today in History - Dec. 21: New owners re-open Mount Crescent in Iowa (wowt.com) — Omaha viewers are reminded that nearby Crescent Hill at Hitchcock, formerly Mount Crescent, is now open for the 2025–26 season just across the river in Pottawattamie County. The piece also kicks off WOWT’s daily “Today in History” features leading up to America’s 250th birthday, spotlighting people and events that helped shape the Omaha–Council Bluffs area.
