Stranded Burning Man Festival-Goers Told To Conserve Water, Other Supplies: Reports

The region was closed off after being pummeled by heavy rains overnight, CNN reported.

BLACK ROCK CITY, NV — The estimated tens of thousands Burning Man festival-goers trapped in the Black Rock Desert desert by surrounding floodwaters have been told to conserve their supplies of food, water, and fuel, festival organizers told CNN Saturday.

The normally dusty campsites were transformed into a muddy swamp with thick mud that is ankle-deep, prompting organizers to stop vehicles from traveling in or out of the festival following heavy rains that pummeled the area on Friday night, the outlet reported.

“Do not travel to Black Rock City!,” festival organizers tweeted. “Access to the city is closed for the remainder of the event, and you will be turned around.”

Some festival-goers hiked for miles to main roads while others hoped that the storms forecasted to hit the area overnight wouldn’t make the campsite’s conditions any worse, according to CNN.
TV series Sailing Doodles host Bobby White could be seen trudging through the mud in a YouTube video with a headline that read, "Burningman 2023 is S—---!”

“Well hello from a very soggy Burning Man,” he says. “We’re kind of s—--- here.”
In his video, White goes on to say that it rained yesterday afternoon and all night leaving the festival area soaked.

Joshua Lease, an event volunteer, told NPR that festival-goers’ spirits are still high and that in the true spirit of the event, they are helping each other out by sharing what they can.
The music hasn’t stopped, Lease told the outlet.

"It's like any other Burning Man, just muddy," he said.

The Washoe County sheriff's office tweeted that it is coordinating with the Bureau of Land Management and the Pershing County sheriff's office as well to stay updated on the situation and offer support if necessary.
