  1. A Pennsylvania wireless company has been fined for safety violations following a Las Vegas man's fatal fall. Michael Vasquez, a 24-year-old Las Vegas native who worked for QualTek Wireless, was working on a cell tower in December 2021 when he fell 140 feet to his death. Investigators foundQualTek Wireless in violation of multiple safety rules — which, if followed, could have potentially prevented the accident. (Las Vegas Sun)
  2. A new study from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV)'s School of Social Work identified an important link between affordable housing and reduced rates of childhood mistreatment. The study, which focused on single mothers with children aged five and older, found an increased likelihood of physical and psychological abuse in households suffering from poverty and limited resources. Notably, unstable housing was not correlated with a higher risk of childhood neglect. (Nevada Current)
  3. Calling all blues lovers: the 8th annual Big Blues Bender weekend festival is headed to Westgate Las Vegas from Aug. 25-Aug. 28. The four-day event will feature dozens of the blues scene's finest musicians, including Buddy Guy, Jimmy Hall, and Reverend Payton's Big Damn Band.
