Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:
- The dog that was rescued from a car at the Bellagio has found a new home. The dog was rescued from the vehicle by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Jul. 20 while its owner was gambling at a Las Vegas Strip casino. Duchess will now be enjoying long walks and new toys with her new family. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- A federal crash investigator's preliminary report details how two single-engine aircraft crashed on Jul. 17 while attempting to land at a North Las Vegas runway. According to the report, the two aircraft were approaching from different directions and were attempting to land on the same runway at the same time. The two aircraft collided and killed all four people onboard. The cause of the crash has not been finalized. (Las Vegas Sun)
- The Southern Nevada Health District hosted an opioid and overdose summit on Wednesday. The summit was held between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at the Marriott Renaissance. Clark County experienced 605 overdose deaths in 2020. A significant increase from the previous year's record of 445. Intervention strategies, treatment options, and corresponding crimes were discussed during the summit. (KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas)
