Here are the top three stories today in Las Vegas:
- A fully electric driverless Lyft can now be requested in Las Vegas. The robotaxi is part of Lyft and Motional's new commercial development occurring in various markets. The partnership has been testing driverless vehicles in the city since 2018. Customers will be able to unlock the vehicle's doors, start the ride through the app, and contact remote agents if necessary. (News3LV)
- Las Vegas' Brandon Lee Toseland, 36, is facing the death penalty in the case of a 4-year-old's death. A notice of intent to seek the death penalty was filed in Clark County District Court by the prosecutor on Aug. 11. The Clark County coroner determined last month that the boy died of blunt force trauma. Police found the boy's body in a freezer. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
- Volunteers have been mapping the Las Vegas area's heat patterns. 28 volunteer teams drove around the region on Saturday to map temperatures in various locations. They took readings through a one-hour period at three different times throughout the day. The heat map will be used at a later date to find ways of cooling heat islands. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
