Here are the top four stories in Las Vegas today:
- Water wasters in Las Vegas are being fined more than ever before. Inspectors throughout the county are registering more complaints, violations, and fines than in previous years. Water waste fines range from $50 to $5,000 depending on the county and the severity of the incident. The city of Las Vegas has been working to raise awareness of and caution regarding the water situation for residents. The rate of fines has gone up significantly since 2019 and is expected to increase in the coming months. (Las Vegas Review-Journal)
- The popular band Imagine Dragons headlined the eighth annual Rise Up Gala in Las Vegas on Sunday. Imagine Dragons helped the charity to raise $3.5 million, alongside fellow celebrities like Shaquille O'Neal and Guy Fieri. Proceeds from the event will go to helping children suffering from pediatric cancer. In the past nine years, the organization has donated $15 million to children and families in need of support. - The Las Vegas Animal Shelter is asking animal-loving residents to open up their homes to foster needy animals. The shelter has been suffering from staffing shortages for some time and is now unable to provide all the animals with the support and care they need. - A man in North Las Vegas was shot by police during a suspected home break-in. On Saturday night, police received a call that a young man was attempting to break into a house with what appeared to be a long metal pole. The man was also said to be in possession of a rifle when he was shot down by police. The victim's identity has not been released at this time. (Fox 5 Las Vegas)
