Here are the top four stories today in Las Vegas:

  1. In honor of the fifth anniversary of the Las Vegas shooting, all state flags will be flown at half-staff. On Oct. 1, from sunrise to sunset, the state flag of Nevada will be lowered to half-staff at the State Capitol and State public buildings and grounds in honor of the victims of the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival shooting. Governor Steve Sisolak has also named Oct. 1 as Vegas Strong day to honor the strength and compassion of the community as a whole. Many memorial events will be going on throughout the city and state to honor those lost during the tragic event. (News3LV)
  2. The casino industry in Las Vegas is undergoing some major changes. Station Casinos is opening its first new location since 2008 at Durango Drive and 215 Beltway. At the same time, the casino empire is bulldozing some of its least-successful ventures. Four poorly-performing casinos are being destroyed, as the company ramps up construction on an additional two casino resorts. (KNPR)
  3. Legendary comedian Rita Rudner is back in Las Vegas —but not for long. The iconic actress and comedian will be at The Stirling Club performing the aptly named 'One Night Only,' her wildly successful comedy show. Rudner is due to step on stage on Oct. 29. Tickets are available at the link. (Nevada Business Magazine)
  4. The Department of Motor Vehicles has issued a warning to residents of Nevada about buying temporary dealer tags online. Many of these tags are illegal forgeries of real dealer tags. If the driver is found with one of these false tags, they will receive a citation. J's Motorsports in Las Vegas is the most recent location to receive criminal citations for the illegal sale of registrations. (KTNV 13 Action News Las Vegas)
