Las Vegas Shooting Latest Facts: Some Victims Identified; State Of Emergency In Clark County

More than 50 people are dead after a lone wolf fired on a country music festival in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS, NV — The death toll climbed Monday in the deadliest mass shooting in United States history as law enforcement officials continue to work tirelessly in the aftermath of the tragedy. A gunman, categorized as a "lone wolf," opened fire Sunday from the 32nd floor of a Las Vegas hotel as patrons were enjoying the final day of a country music festival.

The shooter, identified by police as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, of Mesquite, Nevada, was found dead in his hotel room, and authorities say he was not known to them. As the story continues to develop, here are the latest facts you need to know as of 4 p.m. Pacific time:

  • Some of the shooting victims have been identified. Among the dead are a woman from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, a fisherman from Alaska and a man from Tennessee.
  • Paddock's brother told The Associated Press that he was a multimillionaire and his wealth included real estate and he managed property for relatives.
  • Paddock apparently bought his guns from Guns and Guitars Inc. in Mesquite. The manager of the gun store issued a statement saying all necessary background checks were followed and Paddock gave no indication that he may be unstable.
  • Officials said at a 3 p.m. press briefing that the death toll now stands at 59 and more than 500 people have been injured.
  • A local state of emergency was declared in Clark County, Nevada.

  • The shooter was apparently armed with more than half a dozen firearms.
