Las Vegas Shooting: Raw Videos Capture Moments As Carnage Unfolded

Nearly 60 people were killed and more than 500 injured in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history in Las Vegas.

LAS VEGAS, NV — A gunman opened fire at a country music festival in Las Vegas, leaving at least 59 people dead and injuring in excess of 500, turning a night of music and festivities into a scene of mass carnage that is now the deadliest mass shooting in modern United States history.

The shooter is dead and has been identified by authorities as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, of Mesquite, Nevada. Authorities say Paddock was on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and fired from on top. The death toll currently stands at 50 and is expected to rise. Storme Warren, who was on stage at the time of the shooting, told CNN the alleged appeared to be shooting at random and described a scene of complete chaos unfolding at the event. Country music singer Jason Aldean was performing at the time of the shooting on the last day of the Route 91 Harvest music festival. Videos shared on social media captured some of what unfolded in Las Vegas. (WARNING: The videos below contain sensitive content.)

One video showed people crouched on the ground for cover as gunshots can be heard in the background.

In another video, a man locked down in his hotel room apparently across the street from the shooting can hear the gunshots coming from the scene.

Another video appears to capture the moment the shooting started. Aldean is in the middle of performing a song when gunshots ring out and at first he appears to continue singing before running towards the back of the stage.

Two witnesses who spoke to the BBC described the scene, saying it was dark and all they heard were gunshots. At one moment, the gunshots appeared to stop and someone yells to the crowd that the gunman is reloading and that everyone should run.
