Here are the top three stories today in Reno:
- A man is facing open murder charges after a woman was found dead in south Reno early Sunday morning. Officers arrested the suspect, Fabian Zeragoza-Martinez, approximately three miles away from the crime scene on Iron Mountain Drive. Zeragoza-Martinez allegedly jumped a fence in an attempt to evade officers but was apprehended and arrested for open murder with a deadly weapon. (KOLO)
- Peppermill Reno hosted its seventh annual Pie It Forward bake sale fundraiser on Sunday to raise money for The Empowerment Center. The local nonprofit is dedicated to helping women who are recovering from substance abuse, and the funds raised will go to help provide hygiene items and warm clothing during the holiday season. Peppermill's charity event raises thousands of dollars for local organizations each year. (KOLO)
- Renown South Meadows Medical Center is building a new medical facility to help meet the needs of south Reno's rapidly growing population. The 120,000-square-foot medical office building will attach to the front facade of the existing hospital and stand three stories tall. It will include an on-site retail pharmacy, lab space, an outpatient surgery center, and more. (Nevada Appeal)
