Here are the top three stories in Reno today:

  1. A man was hospitalized in downtown Reno after launching an assault on multiple individuals near the iconic BELIEVE sign. According to the Reno Police Department, the man initiated the attacks before being stabbed, seemingly in self-defense. The incident prompted witnesses to flee, and the police are appealing for their cooperation, though it remains uncertain if charges will be filed against anyone involved. The man's injuries, while not life-threatening, have led to his hospitalization, but it is unknown whether he is still receiving medical care at present. (KOLO)
  2. In nearby Sparks, the Nugget Casino will be hosting its annual Star Spangled Sparks event downtown. Starting at 4:00 p.m. on Jul. 4, Victorian Square will be transformed into a vibrant hub of street festivities, featuring a wide array of food and drink vendors, arts and crafts booths, and a firework display at 9:30 p.m. To avoid parking hassles, make use of the free park-and-ride shuttle service, available from 6:30 p.m. onwards, with pick-up and drop-off points at the Reno-Sparks Livestock Events Center and 510 Greenbrae Drive. After the fireworks display, the shuttles will transport attendees back to the RTC Centennial Plaza station on Victorian Square. (KRNV)
  3. The Washoe County coroner has identified the bicyclist who was fatally hit by a van in south Reno as 43-year-old Azell Meader. The incident occurred on Monday morning, and the medical examiner confirmed the time of death to be around 10:45 a.m. Although the official cause of the crash is still unknown pending autopsy results, Reno Police stated that the bicyclist was struck and killed by a van on Old Virginia Road, north of Damonte Ranch Parkway. It has been reported that neither speed nor alcohol played a role in the accident, and the driver involved is fully cooperating with the police investigation. (KTVN)
