📰 News we're reading

1. Iconic 'Ultimate Rush' swing at GSR coming down to make way for new arena (mynews4.com) — Reno residents are losing the iconic Ultimate Rush swing at Grand Sierra Resort as the ride is being removed to make room for the new GSR Arena. The 180-foot thrill ride, a local landmark since 1998, has no official removal date yet, but construction is expected to start soon, marking a big step in the resort’s expansion plans.

2. KTMB calls for volunteers as annual Christmas tree recycling program begins Dec. 26 (thisisreno.com) — Reno-area residents are needed to volunteer at Christmas tree recycling sites from Dec. 26 through Jan. 11 at Bartley Ranch Regional Park, Reno Sports Complex, and Shadow Mountain Sports Complex. Shifts run 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and you can sign up online while also getting access to more local Reno news coverage.

3. Reno police arrest suspect after chase after crash near Meadowood Mall (foxreno.com) — Early Tuesday, Reno police arrested a man after he crashed near Meadowood Mall and ran from the scene following an attempted traffic stop at South Virginia and McCarran. Officers say he was already wanted on multiple felonies and was found with meth, fentanyl, a firearm, and now faces eight additional felony charges.

4. Reno wastewater treatment facility nearing construction, officials explain cost increases (mynews4.com) — Reno’s planned Advanced Purified Water Facility in Stead is moving toward a July 2026 groundbreaking, with completion expected in 2028 and operation in 2029 to bolster the region’s drinking water supply. Costs have climbed to about $278 million—more than double early estimates—prompting city and Truckee Meadows Water Authority officials to explain design upgrades, PFAS removal, and inflation driving the higher price tag.

5. Median sales price for Northern Nevada homes on the rise, says housing market report (mynews4.com) — Northern Nevada home prices are climbing again, with the median existing home price now around $565,000 and condos and townhomes slightly down. Local real estate and lending experts say Reno’s growing tech and business corridor, especially around USA Parkway, is driving long-term price increases and making dual incomes increasingly necessary to buy comfortably in the region.
