  1. The City of Reno has provided an update on the next phase of the search for the city’s new Chief of Police. Out of 49 applicants, seven candidates were invited to participate in interviews scheduled to begin this week. The City expects the new Chief of Police to be hired in January 2023, following appointment by the City Manager and confirmation from the Reno City Council. (Press Release Desk)
  2. Residents of an apartment complex on Riverside Drive say the response to an Oct. 3 fire by the Reno Fire Department left the building with severe water damages. According to residents of the building, all but one of the apartment complex’s units sustained water damage due to the fire crews’ extinguishing practices. Ronda Theisen, a resident at the property and the president of its Community Association, said, “[the] fire suppression efforts will cost my community somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 or 30 times the cost of the fire damage.” (This Is Reno)
  3. Pediatric cases of respiratory syncytial virus are surging in Washoe County, according to officials from the Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno. There have been 750 reported cases of the virus in the county since October, with over 400 of those cases occurring in the last two weeks. The surge is due in part to recent outbreaks at 10 daycares and one elementary school in Washoe County. (Reno Gazette Journal)
