Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. Nevada's Governor Joe Lombardo recently signed two transgender-related bills, despite opposing trends from Republican governors pushing anti-transgender policies. One of the bills that was signed into office includes Medicaid coverage for all gender-affirming surgeries, as well as another one that focuses on requiring the state's Department of Corrections to include mental and medical health standards for transgender individuals inside certain prisons. This signing comes after Oregon's Democratic governor signed a very similar law into place last month. (This Is Reno)
  2. Washoe County Sheriff Darin Balaam presented a check to REMSA President/CEO Barry Duplantis to help the families of the victims who were lost in the Care Flight accidents. Over the course of two months, members of the community collected internal donations, which gave them the opportunity to donate $20,622 in total. The sheriff explained that nothing can take the pain away from losing a loved one, but their heroic service will never be forgotten. (2News.com)
  3. On Saturday, Jun. 17, a driver crashed into a dry-cleaning business on South McCarran Blvd around 5 p.m. According to Reno Police, no one was injured, but the driver of the vehicle said he mistook the gas pedal for the brake pedal, which evidently caused the accident. The business and car did sustain significant damage, but the driver stayed on the scene and was able to remove his car from inside the business. (2news.com)
