Jacobs reverses course on Bonanza Inn rehab, now intends to demolish aging building (mynews4.com) — Downtown Reno is set for big changes as Jacobs Entertainment now plans to demolish the aging Bonanza Inn instead of converting it into affordable housing, with no replacement project details yet. At the same time, the company is moving ahead on the first four youth sports fields in the Neon Line corridor, part of a larger plan for 12 fields and a new amateur sports initiative.

Construction of Oddie District in Sparks 60% complete, set to open next summer (mynews4.com) — A massive new innovation campus in nearby Sparks, anchored by the Reno-born Generator makerspace, is now 60% complete and slated to open next summer. The revamped former Lowe’s on Oddie Boulevard will host artists, tech companies, food and drink, and performance spaces, aiming to become a regional creative hub for Reno-Sparks residents.

Clean Up The Lake launches the second 72-mile lake cleanup (kolotv.com) — Reno-based viewers are seeing renewed efforts to protect nearby Lake Tahoe, as nonprofit Clean Up The Lake launches a second, more technically advanced 72‑mile underwater cleanup. Divers are now targeting deeper zones with new gear to remove thousands of pounds of trash, a process organizers say could take several years but is already revealing the true scale of litter beneath the lake’s surface.

4. 13-year-old woodworker shows promise (kolotv.com) — A 13-year-old Reno woodworker is turning his hobby into a small but growing business, selling handmade cutting and charcuterie boards at local craft fairs. Backed by a youth entrepreneurship scholarship and support from the Nevada Woodchucks, he’s also active in Boy Scouts and aiming for Eagle Scout while dreaming of becoming a jack-of-all-trades.

Catholic Charities Battle Born Recovery Residences receives a first of its kind certification in Nevada (kolotv.com) — Reno’s Catholic Charities of Northern Nevada just earned Nevada’s first national certification for its Battle Born Recovery Residences, recognizing top standards for sober housing. The program currently supports more than 80 men with housing, jobs, and counseling, and leaders hope to expand services to women if they can secure another suitable facility in the region.
