Reno firefighter pleads guilty to reckless driving from head-on crash while off-duty (mynews4.com) — A Reno firefighter has pleaded guilty to felony reckless driving causing substantial bodily harm after a head-on crash in northwest Reno, and will be sentenced in March. The original DUI charge was dropped because blood was drawn too late under Nevada law, frustrating the injured driver, who continues medical treatment. Reno Fire officials have not yet said whether the firefighter remains employed.
   

2. Washoe County School Board approves bargaining agreement, school zoning changes (foxreno.com) — Washoe County school trustees in Reno have approved a new two-year contract with the teachers union and signed off on major school zoning changes tied to a new elementary campus at Pine Middle School. Several Reno-area schools will be closed, modernized, or rezoned, with the changes taking effect in the 2028–29 school year and affecting families across multiple neighborhoods.

Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue mourns unexpected loss of off-duty battalion chief (mynews4.com) — Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue is mourning the sudden off-duty death of Battalion Chief Ryan Rizzuto and has activated critical incident support for its crews. Reno and Sparks fire departments briefly handled calls Sunday night so TMFPD personnel could gather, while the district asks the community to give the family privacy and keep them in their thoughts.
   

5. Cal Poly indoor track and field sets school records in Reno (fresnobee.com) — Reno hosted a strong start to Cal Poly Humboldt’s indoor track season, with athletes setting eight new school records at the Silver State Invitational at the University of Nevada, Reno. Local fans saw standout performances in pole vault, middle distance, sprints, and throws, with several marks likely to qualify for nationals and more big meets ahead in Spokane this winter.
