- In February, Kathryn Nance will replace Police Chief Jason Soto, who is retiring after more than 25 years at the Reno Police Department. Nance will become Reno's first female police chief. City Manager Doug Thornley said Nance is "the right person to lead RPD" because of her initiatives to address the unhoused population and mental health, as well as her data-driven approach to traffic enforcement. (Sparks Tribune)
- After appearing in a campaign video for U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto last year, Reno Fire Chief David Cochran is facing a possible violation of Nevada ethics laws. Nevada Ethics Commission Director Ross Armstrong submitted a complaint and initiated a full ethics commission review. Recently, the commission determined that “the facts establish
credible evidence to support a determination that just and sufficient cause exists for the Commission to render an opinion in the matter regarding the alleged violations of NRS 281A.400(7).” (This Is Reno) - On Jan. 20, Washoe County District Judge David Hardy granted the subpoenas sought by Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve. Schieve needs the subpoenas to force David McNeely, a private investigator, to identify who hired his firm to secretly install a tracking device on Schieve's vehicle. The subpoenas will be served to McNeely and his private investigation firm, 5 Alpha Industries. (The Associated Press)
- On Jan. 20, Reno resident Toshiko Kato was presented with a Mayoral Proclamation in honor of her 105th birthday. Reno City Vice-Mayor and At-Large Councilmember Devon Reese presented the proclamation at Bonanza Casino, located at 4720 North Virginia Street. (Press Release Desk)
