- Members of the community rallied for Wrightway Market on Wednesday after its alcohol license was revoked in December 2022. During the public comment portion of the Reno City Council meeting, residents protested the council's decision to revoke the store's license citing the high number of calls per service (705) compared to other businesses in the area. One Wrightway Market supporter said, "There are individuals downtown that are creating chaos, and these businesses are being blamed for it." (This Is Reno)
- Emanuel Sergio Flores-Saldana, 22, is in jail after being re-arrested on Friday after his initial arrest on Dec. 22, 2022 in downtown Reno. Flores-Saldana was arrested on Dec. 22 for firing almost 20 rounds with a stolen rifle at the Riverwalk District, where he was eventually shot by police. During the arrest, police found a stolen AR-15 and a stolen 12-gauge shotgun in the suspect's possession. Flores-Saldana was arrested again on Jan. 13 for charges on other crimes by the Sparks Police Department. (FoxReno.com)
- The Nugget Casino, the downtown Reno casino that has been closed for a year and a half, was open for eight hours on Thursday. With 16 slot machines on inside, a door at the N. Virginia Street location was slightly open with a sign inviting the public in. Under Nevada law, a gaming property like the casino must open for eight hours each quarter to keep the gaming license current. (KRNV)
