Spectrum Launches Gigabit Upstream Speeds in Reno

Spectrum Internet®, Ultra and Gig Plans Now Include Equal Upstream and Downstream Speeds

Reno, NV – (December 13, 2023) — Spectrum today announced it has launched gigabit upstream speeds for Spectrum Internet Gig customers across its Reno service area, matching its 1 Gbps downstream speeds. Spectrum Internet (300 Mbps) and Spectrum Internet Ultra (500 Mbps) also now feature equal downstream and upstream speeds.

The new upstream speeds are more than 25 times faster than the company’s previous offerings and are available to new customers purchasing Spectrum Internet, Ultra or Gig speeds, with no change in the plan price. Current customers will automatically receive the faster upstream speeds in early 2024, and can call Spectrum Customer Service to be upgraded immediately. Spectrum Internet plans have no modem fees, no data caps and no contracts.

“Our dramatically faster upstream speeds further enhance applications like video conferencing, gaming, AR/VR and sharing large video files — and position the network for the applications of the future,” said Wally Bakare, Northwest, Regional Vice President of Field Operations at Charter Communications, Inc., which operates the Spectrum brand of connectivity products and services.

Spectrum Internet exceeded advertised download and upload speeds for all tiers measured — even during peak weeknight usage between 7 and 11 p.m. — according to the FCC’s most recent “Measuring Broadband America Fixed Broadband Report” issued in January 2023.

By contrast, cell phone home internet providers (“fixed wireless access”) are prone to speed fluctuations. Ookla® Speedtest Intelligence® data revealed they failed to consistently provide all customers broadband speeds of even 25 Mbps during peak hours (7-11 p.m.).*
