Here are the top three stories today in Reno:

  1. The Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) of Washoe County is organizing a free community event to mark the completion of Phase 1 of the Oddie Wells Project. Taking place on Jun. 17 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Grocery Outlet parking lot on Oddie Boulevard and Sullivan Lane, the event promises a delightful experience for families with live music, entertainment, food, drinks, raffle prizes, and engaging activities. The celebration aims to showcase the remarkable transformation of the Oddie Wells corridor while also encouraging support for local businesses involved in the project. (FoxReno.com)
  2. Reno man Michael Colony, aged 49, has been found guilty of a felony domestic battery case in which he caused harm to an older woman. In January 2022, police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at an apartment on Mira Loma Dr., where they discovered a 60-year-old woman with injuries including a bleeding head wound and strangulation marks. During the trial, evidence was presented, including the victim's testimony, 911 calls, and medical testimony about her injuries. Colony's sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 10, and he may face up to 12 years in prison due to the domestic battery conviction and the fact that the crime was committed against an elderly victim. 3. The City of Reno recently shared the test results revealing the presence of PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," in Swan Lake located in the North Valleys. However, officials have remained silent since the release of the data and have not provided any explanation or clarification regarding the results. Now, This Is Reno is now seeking assistance from data and environmental scientists to analyze the contamination levels in Swan Lake. If you can help to interpret the information, contact the publication here. (This Is Reno)
