CPR Performed On Unresponsive Diver Pulled From Water In Gilford

GILFORD, NH - New Hampshire State Police and Marine Patrol were notified of a water rescue off Diamond Island in Gilford on Sunday.

The investigation found that four divers were in the water when one became unresponsive. Fellow divers brought him to the surface and notified 9-1-1. A good samaritan nearby began assisting in removing the unresponsive diver from the water.

Marine Patrol arrived and was initially advised that two other divers did not surface. Marine Patrol Supervisor David Jones and the divers administered CPR on the victim while he was transported to shore. Members of Gilford, Laconia, Meredith, and Alton Fire Departments assisted in rendering treatment on land.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Gene Parker, age 69 of Wakefield NH.

Marine Patrol Supervisor David Jones said that Parker was unable to be revived. Jones said the identity of the man is not being released pending notification of the next of kin and said although the investigation continues found play is not suspected. It was confirmed that the man who died was the only diver that had not surfaced.

An autopsy by the NH Medical Examiner’s Office is scheduled for Monday afternoon and his dive gear is being examined as well.
