Graham: The Intifada Has Been Globalized. Are Granite State Progressives Happy?

Since the horrific Oct. 7 Hamas attack, progressives have promoted "intifada" and have called for the destruction of the Jewish state.

“Globalize the Intifada?”

You wanted it, Granite State progressives. And now it’s here.

There’s no evidence that the Pakistani father and son who slaughtered 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration in Sydney on Sunday ever heard the chants from the anti-Israel protests at UNH (you can hear the audio below). And it’s true that antisemitic campus protests at Columbia University and Penn got more media coverage than the Israel-haters in Durham and Hanover.

But Granite State lefties, you’ve certainly done your part.

Since the horrific — and not mentioned nearly often enough, antisemtic — Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas attack on Israel, you’ve spent quite a bit of time promoting “intifada,” along with the calls for the destruction of Jewish state (“From the river to the sea”) and a heaping helping of leftwing anti-Americanism (“U.S., Israel — Go to hell!”)

(“U.S.. Israel– Go to hell!”)

When a flotilla set out earlier this year to run the Israeli blockade of Hamas-controlled Gaza, the lone U.S. elected official on board was New Hampshire’s own state Rep. Ellen Read (D-Newmarket).

Free speech advocates often argue that you can’t hold speakers, no matter how radical or extreme, responsible for the violent actions of others. And they’re right.

But it is naive to believe that years of smearing Israel with false accusations of “genocide” — a common theme of New Hampshire protesters — doesn’t make any impact on how Jews are treated.

Which is why U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen’s false claims that Israel was intentionally starving the people of Gaza, and her votes against military support for the Jewish state, appear in a different, and even uglier, light after watching the video from Bondi Beach. It’s why the many elected New Hampshire Democrats who have accused Israel of genocide should watch the events in Australia with some sense of shame.

Nobody believes Israel is perfect. Nobody is arguing that the Netanyahu government should be above criticism. And nobody thinks Jewish people have a monopoly on victimhood.

But with the FBI reporting that hate crimes against Jews reached an all-time high in 2024, how can the angry, anti-Israel activists not see they are part of a very real problem?

Jews are just two percent of the U.S. population, but they were the target of nearly 70 percent of all religiously motivated hate crimes in the U.S. last year. That doesn’t happen without help.

One source of help is Iran. In August, Australia kicked out the Iranian ambassador after evidence showed the Islamic Republic was involved in two antisemitic attacks in their country, including an arson attack on a synagogue. Iran’s antisemitic regime promotes this hate, and they are delighted every time some Democrat dunderhead grabs a “Globalize the Intifada” sign and heads for a street corner.

And how did Australia’s progressive government respond? By joining the liberal governments of France and the U.K. and recognizing a Palestinian state. After the Palestinians of Gaza committed the October 7 attack.

Doesn’t it bother progressives, whether in Melbourne or Manchester, N.H., to know they’re doing the work of the mad mullahs? Of ISIS and Hamas? Of Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens?

There are Democrats who have abandoned policies they support, like tariffs, because Donald Trump has embraced them. How do these same Democrats embrace policies that, intentionally or not, advance the cause of antisemitic haters?

An audit by the Anti-Defamation League released earlier this year found reports of antisemitic incidents rose 51 percent in the Granite State last year, the highest rate of increase anywhere in New England.

Rather than rallying around American Jews, Granite State progressives are attacking Democrats for taking campaign money from AIPAC and supporting Israel’s right to exist.

No, the world doesn’t need any more intifada. But American progressives could use a big dose of shame.
