HAMPSTEAD, NH — Two men from Massachusetts were seriously injured in two different snowmobile accidents in New Hampshire on Sunday.

Hampstead police, fire, and New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to Wash Pond in Hampstead for an ATV that broke through the ice at about 4 p.m. Responders found that John Tarquinio, 65, of Salem, MA, was injured when his ATV went into the water after falling through the ice. Tarquinio suffered a head injury and was pulled from the water by good Samaritans.

Tarquinio was not wearing a helmet or eye protection at the time of the crash. It appears as though the operators’ inexperience operating on this body of water is the leading cause of the crash according to Fish and Game.
