The 11-year-old from Westford, Mass., was seriously injured when he hit a pressure ridge on Lake Winnipesaukee in Gilford, NH.

GILFORD, NH — A Massachusetts 11-year-old boy from Westford, Massachusetts, was seriously injured in a snowmobile accident on Lake Winnipesaukee on Saturday.
New Hampshire Fish and Game said conservation officers responded to a single snowmobile crash around 4 p.m. south of the Witches between Loches Island and Governors Island on Lake Winnipesaukee. Two off-duty Gilford Police Department officers, who were fishing nearby, as well as Gilford Fire and Rescue, responded to the scene.
Conservation officers found the boy was operating a snowmobile with three others when they tried to cross a dangerous pressure ridge.

"While crossing, the minor failed to negotiate the ridge, causing the snowmobile to flip and eject him," Fish and Game said.
Gilford Fire and Rescue determined, due to serious potentially life-threatening injuries, that a DHART helicopter needed to be dispatched. The minor was airlifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.
