Several People Injured In New Hampshire Snowmobile Crashes

Riders from Sanbornton, Pelham, and Deerfield were injured in the crashes. NH Fish and Game warn people to ride at controlled speeds.

CONCORD, NH — New Hampshire Fish and Game responded to snowmobile crashes involving injuries in Bethlehem, Chatham, and Andover on Saturday.

Conservation officers were called to the scene of a snowmobile crash off Prospect Street in Bethlehem. Casey Bourque, 43, of Sanbornton was operating on a trail near Prospect Street in Bethlehem when he lost control of the machine and struck a telephone pole. Bourque sustained serious injuries and was transported from the accident scene by Bethlehem Ambulance to Littleton Regional Hospital. Due to the extent of his injuries, Bourque was transferred to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center

The crash investigation is still ongoing, but initial indications appear that alcohol may have been a contributing factor. Conservation Officers were assisted by the Bethlehem Police Department, Bethlehem Fire Department, and medical providers from the Littleton Fire Department.

Shortly before 1:30 p.m., officials were notified that a snowmobile had crashed on Corridor 19. The rider was Shaun Hefner, 52, of Pelham. Hefner was riding third in a group of four machines, they were making a left-hand turn through an open gate on the trail and took the turn wide striking the open gate. Hefner’s leg was injured in the crash. His riding companions were able to place a call to 911 for help and got him down a nearby access road to meet with rescue personnel.

The Fish and Game Department was notified of a snowmobile crash in the town of Andover. Conservation Officers responded, arriving at the scene at approximately 3:15 p.m. where Andover Police and Fire were already on scene. The crash involved a single snowmobile and rider.

Eric Maloney, 32, of Deerfield was operating a snowmobile south on primary trail 345 when he stated he made a sudden maneuver to avoid striking a dog in the trail. Doing so caused him to lose control of the snowmobile, at which time he was thrown from the machine and struck a tree. Maloney suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Franklin Regional Hospital to receive further medical attention.

Fish and Game also responded to three additional crashes in Coos County.
