Amherst Boy's Murder Prompts New Rules at YWCA

Metal detection will be in place for every non-custodial parent entering Manchester YWCA, among other safety measures.

The Manchester YWCA is implementing new rules including the use of a metal detector on every non-custodial parent to attend supervised visitation at the facility in the wake of a tragedy that left a 9-year-old Amherst boy dead earlier this month.

A story in the Union Leader on Friday said the new procedures went into effect on Wednesday and are included in a new manual. In addition to rules like non-custodial parents being prohibited from bring any items into the center and requiring photos to be on file for anyone to be allowed into the building, a Manchester Police officer will also be on site while the center is open.

The new rules are in response to the murder-suicide of committed at the center on Aug. 11 by Muni Savyon, who shot and killed his son Joshua, an Amherst resident, before turning the gun on himself.
