Bicyclist Hitching Ride on Car Leads to Arrest

The following information was provided by the Manchester Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

An Amherst woman was arrested in Manchester on Thursday morning after a city police officer spotted her driving down the street with a bicyclist hitching a ride.

Jeanine Demers, 32, of Amherst was charged with driving as a habitual offender when she was stopped around 10:40 a.m. Aug. 22.

According to Manchester Police, Officer Jamie Kreamer was on patrol when she spotted Demers' Camry traveling on Bodwell Road with a bicyclist clinging to the passenger side mirror.

When Kreamer stopped the vehicle and the bicyclist on West Shore Drive she determined Demers' license was suspended for being a habitual offender.

Demers was arrested and the bicyclist, Alex Putney, 18, of Manchester, was issued a city ordinance violation for clinging to a moving motor vehicle from a bicycle.
