A Mont Vernon man charged with killing a retired Amherst fire chief when he struck the victim with his car last year waived his probable cause hearing last week.

Travis Hobbs, 20, was originally scheduled to appear in court last month to face a negligent homicide charge, but his hearing was continued. According to the Telegraph, last Thursday's hearing in Milford District Court lasted only a few minutes. The case will now be presented to a Hillsborough County Superior Court grand jury for possible indictment.

Hobbs turned himself in to Amherst Police on Dec. 24 one day after police say he struck John Bachman, 71, of Amherst with his car. According to police, Hobbs said he thought he hit a snow bank and didn't realize he had struck Bachman with his car. Bachman had gone out to his mailbox to check his mail when the accident happened, according to police.
