Important Dates to Know as 2013-14 School Year Begins

It's hard to believe but summer has just about come and gone here in Amherst. This is the last weekend before the big yellow buses start rolling through town again to as children return to school for the 2013-14 academic year on Wednesday, Aug. 28.

With the start of the year just around the corner, there are several important dates coming up. Take a look at some of the days you may want to mark on your calendar at the end of August and through September.

And for anyone out there interested in applying for the head varsity basketball coach position at Souhegan High School, applications are due Aug. 28.

According to the listing on the school district website: "The ideal candidate will be an energetic and enthusiastic individual with a competitive background as a player or coach, be well organized and responsible, communicate well with high school age individuals, and have an understanding of the role of competitive athletics in the secondary school setting.

"Duties include oversight of all levels of the program, competition and practice planning, organization and execution, roster and equipment management, fostering the emotional and character development of our student-athletes, supervising the transportation to and from practices and games, and serving as a role model for our students."
