Smith Road Fire Reaches House, Destroys Chicken Coop
No injuries were reported in Tuesday morning's blaze.
A 2-alarm fire spread from a backyard chicken coop into the nearby home Tuesday morning.
Amherst Fire Chief Mark Boynton said that the fire on 1 Smith Road was called in around 3:40 a.m. this morning. The cause is still under investigation, but it is likely that a heat lamp in the chicken coop started the fire.

The blaze spread to two rooms in the house on the first and second story. It had completely destroyed the chicken coop, but much of the house was spared from damage. No injuries were reported.
Amherst Fire was joined by Brookline, Hollis, Milford, Mont Vernon and Wilton. Boynton said that their quick effective response kept the fire under control and contained in time.
