Town Offices, Schools to be Closed on MLK Day

MLK Day this Monday: The Amherst Town Offices, public schools and some businesses will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20 for Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day.
Fatal hit and run driver due back in court: Travis Hobbs, 20, of Mont Vernon, who is charged with killing retired Amherst Fire Chief John Bachman after police say he struck him with his car on Dec. 23, had his probable cause hearing continued until Feb. 13.
Need to get rid of your Christmas tree: The town's Transfer Station will continue to accept Christmas trees in the brush pile free of charge for residents who need a place to dispose of their trees.
Winter Carnival set: The Amherst Board of Selectmen recently voted to hold the town's Winter Carnival on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on Middle Road.
