Unemployment Claims Rose Last Week

1. Unemployment up. The Labor Department said this week that claims for unemployment benefits rose by 4,000 last week for a total of 352,000. The news caused the stock index to take a hit.

2. Up late? Everybody wants to get that boost once in a while when they need to stay up into the wee hours. One helpful writer tried out all of the popular choices to see which one worked best.

3. Patch Fact: The first woman senator, Rebecca Felton, was 87 years old when she was appointed to the Senate by the governor of Georgia. She served for one day: Nov. 21, 1922.
