5 Things: Back to Business in Bedford

A busy municipal week begins today.

1. Back to business. Most government offices may have been closed yesterday in observance of , but town, state and federal officials return to work today, with the Bedford Town Offices, the Bedford Public Library and the U.S. Post Office all open for normal hours.

2. More snow. Snow showers continue throughout the morning, with another inch or less accumulation likely. The high temperature today is 24 degrees and the chance of snow is 60 percent, according to Weather.com.

3. On the agenda. Two meetings are scheduled today in Bedford with the Highway Safety Committee gathering at 7:15 a.m. at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room and then the Conservation Commission meeting at 7 tonight at the same location.

4. It's your money. The second of two public hearings to review the proposed municipal budget will take place this Wednesday, Jan. 23, at 7 p.m. at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room. For more information, check out the 2013 Proposed Budget Handout.

5. Filing period is upon us! The first day to file for office is this Wednesday, Jan. 23. And while that date is days away, some Bedford incumbents and potential challengers may already be planning their runs for any of eight open positions this coming spring. Any Bedford registered voter wishing to file for town or school district office in the local election in March must do so by contacting Town Clerk Lori Radke at 472-3550. The clerk will be available during normal office hours at the Bedford Town Office Building at 24 North Amherst Road. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.
