5 Things: Bedford Memorial Tree Lighting Today
Plenty of holiday cheer in Bedford today.
1. Light it up! The Bedford Women's Club will light the Town Memorial Tree, located at the corner of Church Road and Amherst Road, at 3 p.m. today. The first memorial tree was planted at the suggestion of Mrs. Harry Blood, past president of the Bedford Garden Club. The Bedford Garden Club cares for the current Town Memorial Tree. Members of the Bedford High School Chorus will close the ceremony with song. The Richard K. Harvell Post 8401 of the VFW and the Stevens-Buswell Post 54 of the American Legion will provide the color guard as those who serve are recognized. Community attendance is encouraged. For further information, contact Nancy Herper, 471-0892. Planning on attending? Share your photos on our neighborhood gallery!
2. Final day for the Christmas coloring contest. Today is the deadline for local children, ages 5-10, to stop by the Bedford Town Offices and show their true colors by helping decorate the lobby with colored-in copies of the festive penguin in the graphic above. For more information and to download the contest rules and coloring page, click here.
3. Holiday Coat Drive. Riddle Brook School on New Boston Road is sponsoring a coat drive. Items collected will be donated to local shelters. The drive runs through Friday, Dec. 14. Items to be collected include: clean hats, mittens, gloves, scarves and coats for men, women, children and infants. Boxes are located in the RBS library hallway.
