5 Things: Black Ice Warning

Here's what's good, and what you should be aware of, heading into this mid-February Wednesday in Bedford.

1. Don't slip! The National Weather Service, this morning, has issued a special advisory, which warns residents of Bedford and other local communities to be aware of possible black ice and other hazards as temperatures once again approached freezing status overnight and into the morning.

2. Aside from that ... Today's Weather.com forecast calls for partly cloudy skies throughout the day with a high temperature projected at 41 degrees and a 20-percent chance of precipitation.

3. On the agenda. The Bedford Cemetery Trustees gather at 9 a.m. at the Bedford Town Office Building, and then the Bedford Town Council convenes at 7 p.m. at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room.

4. 5. Cardboard sled derby. The Bedford Recreation Department, this February vacation, encourages local children to collect giant cardboard boxes to make a sled. It must be completely homemade and able to travel down the sledding hill by the Town Playground. Prizes will be awarded for fastest sled, longest traveling distance and best looking sled. Advanced registration is required by Feb. 18, and the derby will take place at the sledding hill on the town playground on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 10 a.m. Cost is $5 per sled.
