
1. Winter Reading Night. On Wednesday night, Jan. 31, all six Bedford school district principals will gather in the McKelvie Intermediate School cafeteria, from 4:30-6:30 p.m., to read their favorite books to local elementary school students, staff and families. There is no admission charge, but children must be accompanied by an adult and tickets (which also serve as raffle tickets) are required for all who attend. 2. Learn to ski or ride for free! First-time downhill skiers & snowboarders receive a free learn to ski or snowboard lesson, free equipment rentals & a free beginner terrain lift ticket at many New Hampshire ski resorts from Jan. 12 through 18. First-time cross country skiers receive a free learn-to-ski lesson, free equipment rentals & a free trail pass. 3. Foggy morning ahead? The National Weather Service has issued a dense fog advisory for eastern Hillsborough County and other areas of New Hampshire and Mass. The warning last through 9 a.m., and motorists are urged to travel safely as visibility may drop to a quarter mile or less during the rush hour commute.

4. After the fog clears ... Today's forecast, obtained through Weather.com, calls for showers in the morning followed by partly cloudy skies and a high temperature of 51 degrees with a 60-percent chance of rain during the day and a showers likely at night.
5. Planning ahead. The Bedford Planning Board meets tonight at 7, at which time business includes an application for phase 1 of a planned commercial development to clear, grade and stabilize property at 213 South River Road.
