5 Things: Filing Period Nears for Town Elections
Here's what's good in Bedford heading into what is, for many, a long weekend.

1. Run for local office! The first day to file for office is Wednesday, Jan. 23. And while that date is days away, some Bedford incumbents and potential challengers may already be planning their runs for any of eight open positions this coming spring. Any Bedford registered voter wishing to file for town or school district office in the local election in March must do so by contacting Town Clerk Lori Radke at 472-3550. The clerk will be available during normal office hours at the Bedford Town Office Building at 24 North Amherst Road. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1. For a complete list of open positions, click here.
2. Last day to learn to ski or ride for free! First-time downhill skiers & snowboarders receive a free learn to ski or snowboard lesson, free equipment rentals & a free beginner terrain lift ticket at many New Hampshire ski resorts through today, Jan. 18. First-time cross country skiers receive a free learn to ski lesson, free equipment rentals & a free trail pass. Participants must register with Ski NH to download a Learn to Ski & Ride Free coupon, then make a reservation with one of our participating resorts. For more information, click here.
3. Chilling out. Today's forecast, obtained through Weather.com, calls for a partly cloudy day with a high of 25 degrees and a 0-percent chance of rain.

4. The icing on the cake! The most wonderful time of the year may have just passed, but that was 2012. This is 2013 and the Bedford Village Inn is prepared to bring more joy to town when it hosts its third-annual Svedka Ice Bar, which is scheduled to be open nightly, from 5:30-10 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 29 through Saturday, Feb. 2.
