First-time downhill skiers & snowboarders receive a free learn to ski or snowboard lesson, free equipment rentals & a free beginner terrain lift ticket at many New Hampshire ski resorts from Jan. 12 through 18. 2. What to do with your Christmas tree? Bedford Boy Scout Troop 388 will pick up your Christmas Tree Saturday, Jan. 5, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. for Bedford residents. Have your tree ready beforehand and near the end of your driveway. Donations would be very appreciated and can be placed in the baggie, then attached to a tree branch near the base. 3. Nice, on and off the ice! Celebrate local hockey at its finest this Saturday, Jan. 5, the Bedford High School varsity ice hockey team is welcoming parents, family, friends and fans to a player meet-and-greet prior to the team's game at Saint Anselm College. The Bulldogs' contest against Lebanon is scheduled for 3 p.m., but the meet-and-greet begins at 1:30 p.m. Head coach Marty Myers says everyone is invited to attend and get autographed pucks before enjoying the game free of charge. In addition to meeting the BHS mascot, Myers is hoping to see not only up-and-coming players of all ages come out to see the 'anyone interested in seeing what it takes to be a high school hockey player.'

4. Winter warmup? After a bitter cold Wednesday, where Bedford residents saw a recorded high temperature of 22 degrees and a low of 1, today's forecast calls for a cloudy and windy day with a high of 35 degrees and a 10-percent chance of precipitation, according to Weather.com.
5. On the agenda. The first of two public hearings to review the proposed municipal budget will take place next Wednesday, Jan. 9, at 7 p.m. at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room. Also, the Bedford Village Common Development Committee is set to meet at the same location, at 10 Meetinghouse Road, at 8 a.m. today. For more information, click here.
