BEDFORD, NH — Dow owners, commuters and local produce enthusiasts might find this upcoming week noteworthy in Bedford. Here are the top five things coming up in town this week.

  1. Dog owners have an important deadline — they have until Sunday, June 23, to get their dog licenses up to date. Otherwise, they should expect a civil forfeiture letter requiring a fine from the town. Although the town has not taken anyone's dog away for lack of registration in recent memory, the fines will keep adding up for lack of payment. Contact the town clerk's office for more information.
  2. The Bedford Farmers Market starts Tuesday. It will take place weekly from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. until October at the St. Elizabeth Seton Church parking lot.
  3. There will be a retirement celebration for Bedford Police Detective Matt Fleming this Tuesday at New England Tap House Grill in Hooksett at 6 p.m. Fleming is retiring after 23 years of service.
  4. Those driving through Queen City should know that the Manchester water works will be working in the area of Donald Street and Woodlawn Avenue this Monday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. An officer will be in the area directing traffic, and there might be delays. Drive with caution.
  5. School vacation is no excuse not to read. The Bedford library is starting its summer reading program on Saturday, with the goal to accomplish 10,000 reading hours by the end of the summer. This exciting “A Universe of Stories” program, for kids up to age 12, runs through Aug. 10.
