5 Things: Today May Be the Coldest Day of the Year
Wind chill likely to reach sub-zero temperatures, and the Bedford Town Council holds its second of two public hearings on proposed budget tonight

1. Brrrrrrrrrrrr ... The forecast for today is dry with partly cloudy skies, but the high temperature, according to Weather.com, is predicted to be 14 degrees with wind chills approaching 15 below.
2. Never a better time for a hot cup of local coffee! The Bedford Historical Society, today and most Wednesdays throughout the year, is holding an open house, from 10 a.m. to noon, at Schoolhouse #7, next to the Bedford Town Offices, as part of a yearlong fundraiser to benefit the Stevens-Buswell Community Center project. The Bedford Historical Society has partnered with Bedford's-own CQ Coffee Roasters to sell 12-ounce bags of its signature Stevens Buswell Blend (dominant flavor of chocolate with easy stone fruit tones in the middle sold). CQ Coffee will donate $4 of each bag to the restoration of the old schoolhouse. Coffee can also be purchased from www.bedfordhistoricalnh.org, and at all Bedford Historical Society events. 3. It's your tax money. The second of two public hearings to review the proposed municipal budget will take place at 7 p.m today at the BCTV Bedford Town Meeting Room. For more information, check out the 2013 Proposed Budget Handout. And find the full Town Council agenda here.

4. Grand Master in the house! Bedford ATA hosts a meet and greet with the head of the American Taekwondo Association on Friday, Feb. 1, from 6:30-7 . Grand Master In Ho Lee is a 9th Degree Black Belt and is the third person to head up the ATA. Grand Master Lee is well known for his dedication to training and physical fitness. He has been a champion of The President’s Challenge fitness program, and encourages all ATA members to continually improve their level of fitness. This is his first visit to New England as Grand Master.
5. File for elected office beginning today! Those wishing to file for one of eight open elected positions Any Bedford registered voter wishing to file for town or school district office in the local election in March must do so by contacting Town Clerk Lori Radke at 472-3550. The clerk will be available during normal office hours at the Bedford Town Office Building at 24 North Amherst Road. The deadline for filing is 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 1.
